Yet more from my friend - but it still pays to be careful.

Colette again,

After spending the entire evening canceling credit cards, etc., I came
home
from the neighbor's computer to find a message for me from the Dell
technician who started this whole thing. He seemed to be having second
thoughts. This morning I called back in and got the technician with
whom I
had spoken last Saturday and who really seemed to know his stuff. He
didn't
want to say anything bad about the other guy, but did give me the
address to
write Dell about this incident, and spent several hours with me to fix
another problem I was having.

The ASP.NET user account is used by some Microsoft programs. It has a
password as a security measure so that it can't get any further than
is
needed. It's NOT a hack. I am red faced, embarrassed, and exhausted.
All I
can say is that I thought I was passing on information that was vital
to
keep my friends from having the same difficulties, and that I'm sorry
if it
brought undue concern. It's a nasty world out there, and we are very
trusting with our personal information, and identity theft is a real
risk,
so perhaps this false alarm is a reminder of that.
