There is also another possible reason for the buzzing sound you are
hearing on certain notes.

Bladder skin pads, like that used on all R13 clarinets, can wrinkle if
not properly installed or set up. The wrinkle in the skin creates
pockets of loose skin over the felt. The loose skin can actually
resonate or react to the air coming out of the tone hole and create this
buzzing sound.=20

Not sure is this would be the case with the long B, but it certainly
could be the case where you are playing a note with an open tone hole
next to it. You might be able to look at the pad that sits next to the
note you are playing and see if the pad looks wrinkled.

In some cases you can iron the skin of the pad using a pad spatula with
a little moisture and heat.

A competent repair person should be able to diagnose if this is the
problem and repair it.

<< I just got a new Bb r13 that is just about perfect except I'm
noticing a strange buzzing sound behind certain notes like the long B
and throat e and g right above the fifth stave. A fellow clarinet who
was listening said he thought it emanated from the register key and that
he had a similar problem at one point.
He couldn't answer what caused it though so I'm asking if any of you
might have had a similar experience or know what causes it exactly and
how to fix the problem. The clarinet overall is too good for me to swap
it for another so I have to find a fix for this. Thanks
