I promised Tom Henson I would do a post about the Symposium at U of
Oklahoma.

I have one thing to say -- if you ever have a chance to go there - DO IT.
Just the opportunity to hear all the great clarinetists, one after the
other, is
just so incredibly valuable.

It's hard when you're there as a vendor (as I was) because you get stuck
behind your table. I was able to go to a few daytime recitals due to the
assistance of Nancy Buckman (thank you Nancy!) and Scott Kurtzweil of WW&BW,
who
both offered to sit in.

I was able to hear the recitals of Bob Spring, Elsa Ludwig-Verder, John
Manasse, Ricardo Morales, Larry Combs, and the jazz concert of Eddie
Daniels.
They were all wonderful in their own way. Elsa Ludwig-Verder just knocked me

out, with a huge flowing liquid sound. WOW! Larry Combs was also
particularly
wonderful with his basset clarinet rendition of the Mozart Quintet. Bravo
Larry!

I missed every single master class and/or lecture. I tried to get in to hear

Morrie Backun, but the room was swamped with bodies and the temperature was
about 95 degrees! I guess Morrie's pretty hot these days!

I met quite a few klarinet listers: Nancy, Audrey Travis, Joe Limacher,
Kelly Abraham, Diane Karius, and others. If I have forgotten anyone, just
put it
down to incipient Alzheimers!

It was a great time. Hope to see more of you there next year.
