Dan,

Yes, you can play some of the throat notes in clarion. It does get harder to
make them sound well the further down you go but Bb and A are not bad -
quite usable, and very handy at least for turns and trills. With more
practice on the air support they would probably become better still. The
main problem is that they are tuned for the low notes so may not be well in
tune in the clarion, and the register key is so in the wrong place for these
that speaking gets harder. I'll have a more serious test on mine and report.
