I was curious about something that is not related to this thread. I
had downloaded the files WINTER01.ZIP through WINTER12.ZIP from
http://www.woodwind.org/clarinet/Music/Manuscripts/Winterthur.

My eye happened to notice two dotted vertical lines at the upper right
corner of WINTER11. These dots made me think about your earlier posts
about the double dots in m92. After a few moments, I realized that
these "dotted vertical lines" are the number "11" (and there is a "12"
with only one dot above it at the same location of WINTER12).

This is no big deal except that it focused my attention on the fact that
at least some of what we see on the facsimile was not put there by
Mozart. In fact, are these items (such as the measure numbers) on the
manuscript at all? or only on the facsimile? Could a single dot have
been converted into a double dot by a dust particle on a lens, or by an
ink spatter? Obviously Mozart was writing quickly. Did his pen tip
touch the paper by accident? Why aren't the two dots closer together?

Does all of this prove anything? No, but surely it's a good reminder
that just because it's on the facsimile doesn't necessarily mean that
Mozart put it there (or meant to put it there). That's the thought
that popped into my head as I was examining the facsimiles for an
unrelated reason.
