Well, Dan, you have made a good suggestion. I won't
argue the logic of our spending habits or the
economics of the music industry. But I am the type of
person to buy something because it is somehow
beautiful and good for the world. I buy organic eggs
without really knowing if they are logically better
for me. I have a Ridenour low C bass, because the low
notes are wonderful, but I haven't used them much. I
now have a C clarinet, in part because of the
discussions on this board; the C is also just plain
easy in church and in goofing around with traditional
music. A basset horn is not out of the question,
though I'm pretty sure the chances to use it will be
rare. On the other hand, I am still learning that if
I make something possible, then it is much more likely
to happen. I know a clarinetist in San Diego that
bought a basset horn because he wanted one, and
because he knew he could make it work as an alto
clarinet in the band he was in. I'd love to attempt
the K 361. I should say that I am an amateur player,
and I am not at all well off.
Have fun in Oklahoma, Dan, and everyone.

Wayne Thompson
