Joe, since I haven't read the author's discussion of the results, I can
only guess. However, I suspect that the author's motive for
blindfolding some of the babies was that eyes are a primary sensor of
motion. Thus a roller coaster ride is not as disturbing if you close
your eyes. Certainly there is no way that most of us can ignore what
we see during a roller coaster ride.

To pursue the topic of association between various senses a bit further,
I wonder if performers and/or composers who are perceived as being more
"cerebral" can accurately be described as being more 'immune' to
associations between multiple senses? That is, they exclude the senses
other than aural more effectively or more automatically?
