If you find the Argento to be too atonal, you aren't going to like much
written past about 1920 or so... The Argento is one of the gems of the
clarinet and voice repertoire- especially when done with a tenor singing.
The bass clarinet blend with the male voice is stunning.

It is very difficult and taxing to perform, though. One movement as I
remember is in 3 different keys at the same time (each performer in their
own key). There are some dissonances, but they are quite minor in the
relative scheme of things...

Also, how did they perform around four sides of the pool? It is written for
only 3 performers. I can imagine because of the previously mentioned
issues, that would have been quite a feat- to have the performers so widely
spaced.
