Gnarly Buttons is a very fine work by Adams.=20
I studied it last year while on scholarship with Michael Whight at =
Trinity College in London. He has just performed it with the London =
Sinfonietta and received several curtain calls.=20
BTW he is also performing Weber 2 next Friday (June 10).
The work is minimalist in style as you would expect and therefore does =
contain a lot of repetition. However the third movement in particular is =
really a wonderful piece of writing for clarinet from a well established =
composer who set out to write a concerto harder than the Nielsen (and he =
succeeded in that at least!). Beginning at the same metronome =
marking=E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6it only gets harder =E2=98=BA
Cheers
