I think the TECHNICALLY hardest pieces I ever performed are the Set For
Clarinet by Martino and the Francaix Concerto. However, I suspect that
the TECHNICALLY hardest piece written is the Corigliano Concerto.
BUT, technique is only one part (and often not the most important
one!) of music. Musically I think the most challenging one is either
the Mozart Concerto or the Brahms Eb Sonata; the first because it can
simply be played so many ways and the second because the piano part is
as important as the clarinet part and both players have to be musically
in sync.
