Subj: [kl] Tempo for Mozart K622?
Date: Thu, 02 Jun 2005 14:12:27 -0400

What do people have to say about the tempo for the
first movement of the K622 concerto?

My edition (Fischer) lists the first movement
parenthetically as 104, the Conn smartmusic is at 112
or 120 and most recordings that I have checked are
circa 130.

My gut reaction is that it is mainly a function of the
performers goal of whether he ( or she) is trying for
a florid emotionally interpretive rendition or a
display of technique. There seems to be a 30 variation
that makes me wonder about the range of intentions
appropriate for this piece.

How about a rubato approach where the is room for
ornamentation and place to show fast precision in the
sequences?
