Mendelssohn's 4th Symphony "The Italian" presents some challenges for the
clarinetists.

For the second clarinetist, in particular, there is a lovely duet with the
first clarinet, in the Andante movement. It is quite famous, and the second
part appears in most of the excerpt books along with the first.

The final movement, the "Saltarello" is very fast and requires rapid
tonguing of repeated triplet figures. If you do NOT have a fast, light staccato, it
is apparent to all rather quickly.
I don't mean to scare you away, but for a first appearance with an
orchestra, this is perhaps NOT the easiest piece.

It is indeed written for clarinet in A.
