<<<I used to have a tape of a radio broadcast of the Nielsen concerto by
Kjell-Inge that was the best performance of the piece I'd ever heard.
Forget Drucker and all of that.
He also recorded it with Blomstedt, but that wasn't so good, I thought.>>>
Is the currently-available Blomstedt recording a reissue of one done long
ago? When I studied the Nielsen back in college (when mastodons roamed the
Earth) my teacher insisted that I listen to Cahuzac and Stevensen, as much
more representative of the music than SD's. The older I get, the more I
appreciate that.
The only recording with Kjell-Inge S. that I could find was part of a boxed
set. It's now in a box loaded on a truck (we're moving house) and I can't
get to it. Unfortunately, I don't have equipment to play vinyl at the
moment, but this recording is so fine in my memory that I may have to
purchase a turntable (from a museum perhaps).
I met KIS at the 2001 ClarinetFest in New Orleans. Very disappointing - I
was hoping for a wizened old sage who could impart some Wisdom to a
long-time fan. Instead, I met a most affable and pleasant gentleman who
(gasp!) didn't look any older than me - he must have recorded the record I
bought whilst in diapers!
