You know, Bryan, it may be several particular batches of reeds, now that
I think of it. I've had that happen, when I've used one particular
brand, over several years. I'll have the reeds be fairly good, or at
least consistent for a long time, and then, for no apparent reason, they
will simply be awful, or at the very least, much more difficult to break
in. Perhaps it may be one particular batch of cane. After all, we are
dealing with something that is directly produced from a living thing.
There are way too many unpredictable variables to truly know. More
really depends upon the cut, and how well the cane is aged, IMHO. I
think that is also why so many eventually get blanks or even tubes, and
make their own, if they have the time, the patience and the
even-handedness to do so.
