May I suggest to you that you may be playing brand-new reeds for too long? For me (a Northeastern
U.S clarinetist) the first few trials of reeds never last for more than a few seconds. Five minutes
on a brand-new reed would virtually guarantee water-logging and possible ruining of the reed. In
fact, if I have a piece of cane which seems destined for greatness, I don't even play it every day
for the first week or so. I'm not familiar with the Gonzales cane but I can't imagine that it's any
less porous than Vandoren.
