Russianoff had specific techniques for practicing passages to learn
them accurately and make them "stick" the next time you came back to
them. He was also very much interested in having students develop an
ear for what was less than satisfactory in any given passage, and
analyzing how to improve or fix it. It could be drudgery at times, but
it was valuable.
