The note below was sent to me by one "ILANAE1@-----.com" and asked
me to post it for here since she was having difficulty with
posting it to Klarinet. I do so without comment.

Dan Leeson

Hi Fellow Clarinetists!

I signed on to the Clarinet Chat Site in the midst of a
discussion of whether
or not Mozart was a racist. Now we seem to have progressed to
Wagner and his
foibles. I guess these kinds of discussions and debates could
just go on and
on and, ultimately, what would we achieve? Those who attack
Mozart or Eagner
would be just as virulent in their attacks, and those who defend
M & W would be
adamant in defending them. It ultimately boil down to a matter of
opinion...so
can't we just agree to disagree and decide to help each other and
share
info/tips/references/etc. on the clarinet? I already thank you
for supplying info
on mouthpieces and I look forward to word on the music from The
Terminal so I
can take a crack at that. Isn't that kind of info more helpful to
us all?

I do not like Wagner's music, well, that's not quite true but I
do not pursue
it with the same affection as Mozart's. I just played a fairly
decent
rendition of the first movement of K622 and am very happy with my
progress. I haven't
played Wagner but Mozart is a never-ending joy to study and
play....I prefer
to avoid discussion of his proclivities for racism (or his
non-proclivities)
as that's neither here nor there to me. I wonder if others out
there feel the
same. We could go on and on about our personal preferences and
our views of M
and W's foibles as human beings. would that get us anywhere, do
you think?

If we focus on our craft and how we can improve/enjoy the
clarinet even more,
we will be on firmer ground, I think, and--who knows?--help each
other...that's what we're aiming for, isn't it? (This is from a
person who will never be
more than an amateur!)

Best to You all!

LHI
