I like the 60 Rambles for a certain age and level of student. The tunes
are longer than one or two lines, so the student needs to develop a
little more physical (and mental) endurance to play them successfully.
AND, they have to learn to read. The exercises are tonal in the broad
sense, but not strictly limited to a key with a few accidentals. And
when Leon Lester uses some "odd" pattern of fingering or harmony, he
often repeats it in the context of the tune to reinforce it. All very
useful for my students. The titles ARE silly, so beyond a certain age,
that aspect doesn't "sell". But all in all I like this book and find it
valuable for my students
