Erm, I think I'd quite like the discussion to be up a level, if you don't
mind. It's not that I *blame* you for not knowing the music, just that if
you don't know the music, what you have to say is a bit diminished.

For example, I first heard some of the Ring at 18, went to three cycles over
several years at Covent Garden, and bought the discs and read the book
"Wagner's Ring and its Symbols" by Donington; my parents, hearing me involved
with all of this decided there was something worthwhile there and went to
Bayreuth several years running, camping and dressing up in DJs out of their
tent:-)

Other people have a history of much more involvement.

As for Tristan, you can easily buy, as I did, the Furtwangler recording.
