I saw a picture of the production of Tristan done in Munich. The
entire stage was empty except for an enormous and erect phallus.
I was reminded of Robin William's comment during an improvised
comedic depiction of Adam meeting Eve for the first time. Adam
shouted, "Stand back lady!! I don't know how big this thing is
going to get."

Well, I haven't heard Tristan and Isolde; my friend had, and he
was
telling me his interpretation of the music as part of his general
enthusiasm for Wagner's dramatic musicality. I don't think
anyone had
told *him* this interpretation; it came to him naturally from
listening.

Perhaps he's spoiled my opportunity to hear the work with open
ears, but
I still liked his story. :-)
