I'm asking both questions, Karl.

First, I'm asking if Finale can be purchased with a "sound engine"
(Sibelius's term, not mine) which can (if adjusted properly) sound
noticeably closer to acoustic instruments than the generic "General
MIDI" that comes with every notation program and whose sound is similar
to the sound from a $50 electronic keyboard?

For example, Kontakt allows you to separately adjust the attack,
"bigness of sound" (Sibelius's term, not mine), reverberation, loudness,
and panning (does the instrument sit left or right in the orchestra?) of
each individual instrument. Sibelius also has a "layer" adjustment for
each instrument, but I haven't figured out yet what "layer" means.

Second, _if_ Finale can be purchased with such a "sound engine", does
the output (when adjusted appropriately) come close to the sound of a
quality CD played in a home stereo? Or is it jst a different type of
obviously electronic sound? (nothing compares to live music, of course)

Thanks,
Bill
