Not sure why the note is being misplaced on the staff - how are you entering
the notes? MIDI keyboard? the computer's numeric keypad? I assume you're
talking about unpitched percussion if you're using a percussion clef. If
you're using a MIDI keyboard, you might be having a disagreement with the
software about what octave you're actually playing in.

Drum rolls are done in one of two ways. To slash the stem, click on the
Articulation Tool and select the three slashes from the menu. You may have
to manually place the symbol over the note stems by dragging it (the default
positions can be changed, but unless you're doing a lot of these, it's
easier just to fix up the position after you've selected the marking). Use
ties between notes to indicate a continuous roll. If you want to use a trill
sign, use the Smart Shape version. Slick on the Smart Shape Tool, then
select the "tr" sign from the menu. Press and hold the left mouse button
where you want the trill/roll to start, then drag right and the wavy line to
show the duration will appear. When it's the length you want, release the
mouse button.

Send more information about your input method and what the staff name is for
the staff with the percussion clef.
