Keep in mind that the Rubank Intermediate Book is intended to follow the Rubank Beginner book. The latter volume is intended for two years of study and does a very thorough job of drilling dotted eighth notes. It also takes the student to the G that is 4 ledger lines above the staff. Thus the Intermediate book really is only starting off with a brief review before tackling the trills and ornaments.

If the student has not completed the equivalent of the Rubank Beginner book, they are not ready for and should not go into the Rubank Intermediate book.
