Dan, it's not just in the past, and it's not just in music.

This very morning, my daughter was listening to a 'rock station' as I
drove her to school. The station was broadcasting a phone-in contest
with Mother's Day as the theme. The contest was named "your mama"
[with a the '-r' pronounced more like "-ah"] as if it was a bit of humor
that everyone in the audience should appreciate.

Is there any way to 'fix' such incidents? The only thing that I am
comfortable saying is: shining a light on bigotry (and discussing the
matter with your child) is usually the best choice. In the case of
unusually offensive music titles, it seems less offensive to me to
change the title rather than to eliminate worthwhile music from a
repertoire.
