Hi Dominic,

I bought my Series 9 E-flat about 7 years ago. There are some who think
they are about the worst instruments in the world, but I think it's a
wonderful E-flat (I can't speak for their other Series 9's). The Series 9
my high school had was from the 70's, where I believe mine is from the 60's
(I'm not at home this weekend where I can double check the serial #), and
either one of them had a replacement barrel, or Selmer changed the length of
the barrel at one point. With my Kaspar mouthpiece, I had to have Steve Fox
make a longer barrel. Although with my Dan Johnston and Greg Smith backups,
the Selmer barrel is necessary unless I can have the horn properly warmed up
and not let it get cold.

The tuning may not be as refined as some more modern instruments and
designs, but if you have a good ear, then playing in tune with it is easy.
The times I borrowed Buffet R-13 and Prestige E-flats I could never get
certain notes in tune. The Selmer is also more flexible, both in pitch and
tonal palette.

Hi

I am looking to purchase a Selmer Series 9 e flat
clarinet. Does anyone have any experience with this
make? I think this particular model was made back in
the 70s.
