That may be true for now, but as Linux gains popularity, it will apply
to Linux too. It is oft claimed that Linux does not have the security
holes of Windows and Internet Explorer, but I cannot agree - no program
that big can ever be completely bug-free and someone is bound to find a
route and method to attack soon. Sadly, when they do, there will be no
antivirus/antispyware software ready until several (probably millions
of) people have suffered, so my advice is that: yes Linux is safer at
the moment, but it will definitely not be safe forever. Sorry to be so
pessimistic, I have never understood the mentality of virus writers
attacking the general public at random (you can see why spyware/adware,
though I abhor it), but they do it. So Linux will suffer (sooner
rather than later I predict).
