I recently had occasion to replace the spacer cork which determines the
pad/ring height on the lower ,& also the upper clarinet joints. Am I right
in thinking - A too high a pad/ring height will improve venting, but
adversly affect tuning---whereas too close a setting will cause stuffiness
and again produce tuning problems. I wonder if trial & error is the only
way to hit on the best optimum setting... Harold Troughton
