I guess I'm lucky, the conductor has me give the tuning note for the band.
This is when I do have my tuner on the stand and the note I give pegs at
A440. We usually stop several times during rehearsal and retune back to
A440.

This obviously may not work in a concert situation, but it helps people to
see how far they have strayed from the initial tuning note.

The last concert that I gave the conductor had us stop and tune about every
fourth piece just to pull things back. Hopefully the audience didn't mind
the small delay.

I am also VERY tired of those oboe players, who very carefully give a
tuning note at A=440, then immediately thereafter, play at a pitch level of
442 or above. What earthly sense does this make? >>
