What sense does it make? It makes them the winner of the game, "Who's
the King of Bunker's Hill." Crazy, yes! I've often asked the same
question about orchestras going much higher than A=440 and causing
players untold grief playing at these higher levels on instruments not
designed to do so. I realize there is a saying something about the only
reason we have rules is so we can break them, but there must have been
some reason why nations got together in 1936 (circa) to make firm many
standards, including a pitch standard of A=440 under very specific
conditions of temperature, etc.
