I was away when the last item came in and have only just returned, but I
had realized much earlier that of course in his terms Dan is quite correct;
one can't distinguish nationality in clarinet playing. But I was amused in
the light of my (wrong) assumption that we were trying to distinguish
between French and German sound, that Dan didn't include any French players.
I'm confident that if one wanted to prove the opposite to what Dan has
proven, one could select French, German, English and Viennese recordings
from 30-50 years ago and the majority of those old enough to remember that
time would come up 100% correct. Nick.
