Subj: [kl] completely OT, but not unimportant: pronunciation

Off list several people recently asked me how to pronounce my name. In the
past some people consequently spelled it in a wrong way, but during my stay
in Atlanta, Ga (1968), I got used to it. It is NOT pronounced like Ry-un
Steene, although I am well aware in England (and maybe also in the USA?) a
"stein", pronounced "steene" is a beer mug. In Germany it is a stone.

My name is spelled Rien Stein, "Rien" originating from the Latin word
"Marinus", pronounced "mahreenous", sailor. It was my grandfather's name.
Usually people knowing me ten minutes introduced me to other people like

"Rine Steene".

That is a reversal of the sounds: it should be something like

"Reene Stine",

where the "ee" is pronounced a lot opener (and thus shorter) than the
American transcription above suggests, and for those knowing German "Stein"
is pronounced more or less the German way, but without the "j"-sound between
the s and the t.

But if you can approximate it I am already happy.

Play today the most beautiful piece you like, even if it is sentimentally,
and enjoy yourself.

Rien
