I don't know: I can't speak either on behalf of either of his views.

However, I do think your test had many variables. I realise it may be
difficult to instanstiate, but (I think Lelia suggested this) at least
have the players from different schools playing the same passage, if you
decide to put effort into orchestrating a second test.
