Chen was playing the Francaix with a German Orchestra. So that would make
the recording be at probably 442 or even more!
But it is that fast - he is an amazing world class player. I have his Mozart
Concerto which was also live and it is astoundingly good.
He to me is at least as good or better than any other soloist anywhere (Abe
highly regarded him too). I got my recording from Abe Galper which I would
assume that Dan got from him as well. What was cool is that the tape that
Abe sent me ran out mid way through the last mvt and what Dan presented was
the complete last mvt - worked out well for me!!!

Now here's a possibility - I got the ""TAPE"" from Abe. Possibly Dan got a
TAPE as well and that would be possibly the problem. If Abes tape copier ran
too slowly, the recording would end up being not only very, very sharp but
also too fast. I'll have to check it with a tuner as it to me does sound
higher than 442, but not sure.

Wow, just had a listen to some of those clips... the recording of the last
movement of the Francaix (#11) sounded astounding ....... until I clicked on
it again.

I think the RPMs on the record player from which it was transferred were
just a little too high, because that recording ran so fast it ran right out
of my speakers... and was a gazillion cents too sharp. It's either that, or
the bitrate and clock speed on the workstation weren't properly set when it
was mixed down making the recording sound higher and unnaturally faster than
it was actually played. What's up with that?
