This is one of the areas where Sibelius's manual and help windows leave
me mystified, Mark.

They claim that Sibelius 3.1 includes a separate "sound engine" which is
distinct from MIDI. Thus you have a choice of using G-MIDI or or
X-MIDI or this other "sound engine" called "Kontact". Kontact does
give a completely different sound to some major instruments than
"Microsoft Synth Wavtable" does via "MIDI".

I suppose at some point along the path, all these different devices talk
to the same physical device which cause my speaker's diaphragm to
vibrate. But I wonder if the "sound card" is this common meeting
ground for all of the different paths, or whether other junctions are
available along the path?
