Subj: [kl] Music notation software
Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2005 14:24:14 -0400

There has been some discussion on another list about different music =
notation software, specifically Finale vs Sibelius, and I'm looking for =
some input. I have been using Encore for some time, but it has a couple =
of really bad annoyances, namely that slurs and dynamics don't "stick" - =
i.e. they are not logically attached to a note or measure, so that when =
you extract parts or reflow they don't always end up in the correct =
place, and you have to manually go fix them.

I was told that Finale and Sibelius do not have these issues, so I'm =
specifically looking for your gripes about them. Both are competent =
products, but are just different, and I'm not quite swung either way =
after having played with demos. What I really want to know is are there =
specific things that one or the other just doesn't do right. Like not =
being able to have a pickup bar, or you can't do cues, or when you =
extract a part from a score the bar lines get messed up. I want to know =
what the sales material isn't telling me... ;-)
