For what its worth, Alfred Beau of Quimoer France created a cermanic
clarinet in the nineteenth century. Alfred is best known as an artist and
ceramicist. He also created other ceramic musical instruments with
incredible decorations. I have seen the (full sized!) cello in a museum;
primarily for the colors of the paintings, it took over thirty firings to
create it! I have a picture of it on one of these computers; if someone
wants a copy I will respond to requests. There are also: the clarinet (I
have not seen it nor do I know where one might find it ... and, I have
looked), violins, a hurdy-gurdy, etc.

The cello can actually be played though it has developed some cracks. I
understand the violins are also functional. I have no about the tonal
quality. Not ever having seen even a phot of the clarinet, I cannot provide
more info about it. Does anyone else know?
