There are two musical instrument collections in Edinburgh that are must sees. The first is the Edinburgh University Collection of Historical Musical Instruments in bristo Square. This is a collection of 2500 winds, percussion and string instruments. The other collection is the Russel Collection of Historical Keyboards housed at St. Cecilia's Hall in Cowgate.
check out the website: www.music.ed.ac.uk/euchmi.
I did my Masters in music in Edinburgh and can highly highly recommend the collections and the director and curator are both wonderful people.
