Indeed they do, and it took me years to discover that they chip sometimes
with the slightest contact with the edge of a metal ligature. Metal is
evidently sufficiently unforgiving to produce a shock wave big enough to do
the dirty deed. I went through about 3 Selmer S crystal mouthpieces, never
knowing why they were inexplicably chipping on me until one day when I
lightly contacted the thin top edge with my ligature and I saw the tiny
chip which was produced. I haven't had another chip produced since then
and it is about 5 years since that happened. I do have two Mitchell Luria
crystal mouthpieces sitting in a box waiting for the fateful day, however.
