I learned the same thing from Stanley Hasty, and I find that starting my
fingers in the opposite direction (lifting for putting them down and
squeezing for raising them) makes me get the motion going, and therefore
can play better legato fingers. In all my master classes I metion this
technique just as Todd did. Bravo to him for spreading the word more Todd
is a very fine player.
