Subject: la forza del destion

I would like to paint a picture for my students about the story surrounding
the long beautiful clarinet solo in "La Forza Del Destino" by Verdi.

In my Ben Armato book it says that the Met does it in the second act and
some other sources indicate that is in the 3rd act.

Two questions: What act is it really in and
what would be a brief description of what's going on in the story to paint
the picture for the extended andante solo?
