From: "Margaret Thornhill" <clarinetstudio@-----.net> Subj: [kl] What was the original Title in Russian? (was Concert Announcement) Date: Sun, 03 Apr 2005 13:49:32 -0400
Warren Rosenberg asks:
"What was the original title in Russian?...seeing the word in the title in
Russian should almost speak for itself"
Here it is!
I hate to be the tie breaker, but the 1922 Russian/English title page (of
the Koussevitsy edition of the Russicher Musikverlag in Berlin, via B and H)
says
Ouvertyura na evreiskiya temi
(ouverture on hebrew themes)
(transliteration courtesy of Jeff Greif, my spouse)
AND underneath, in English:
Ouverture on Jiddish Themes
(which was I suspect a direct translation of the German title of this
work--B and H, Berlin, ja? because of the use of the J and not the Y)
;-)
