Attended a local orchestra's performance of the 9th last night with
three - count 'em - three choral groups all singing their hearts out.
Roughly 150 voices (plus four pros up front). Wow.

However, in the program: no clarinet players listed!

Dumb question: is that because the piece isn't scored for clarinet or
because the local orch "ran out" of clarinet players? The latter, I
gather, is a problem in general with non-professional groups - the
conductor, when I was on the Board, kept saying "I could use some more
[...]" (fill the blank with the instrument of your choice.)
