What was the original title in Russian?
Someone on this list must speak russian and the two distinct words in
Russian for Yiddish or Hebrew, two distinct languages, one ancient
(relatively speaking) and one, fairly modern.
Seeing the word in the title in Russian should almost speak for itself.

Amongst Jews, yid is not a pejorative word. Ask a Chassid. Among non-jews,
the word is probably not well-known.

The French title "Overture sur Themes Juifs" means Overture on Jewish
Themes. Je suis un juif, par example.

Again, what is the title in Russian. The French translator translating from
Russian may have made a mistake, but I doubt it. And I doubt that with the
anti-semitism in Russia and Europe at that time, the composer thought he
would "hide" something by using the word, Hebrew.
