You are correct Walter. Today there is no embarrassment. But in
the 1920 and 30s, it was considered gauche to refer to an ethnic
work as Yiddish. Sometimes the speaker went so far as to suggest
that it was "Oriental" when speaking of music with a Jewish
flavor.

The world has grown up. I was simply pointing out that the
incorrect title of the work (and as used on the cover of the
International Edition) represents a thing of the past that we are
stuck with. It is not at all dissimilar to "Gran Partita" and
"Gran Partitta."

Dan, I was aware of your earlier post on this subject. The person
listing
the program simply took the information from the title page of
the
International Music Company edition.

There is NO embarrassment concerning the "ethnicity." Three of
the six of us
are Jewish, and, for heavens sake, we are playing in Highland
Park, IL,
which has seven synagogues and only six Christian churches!
