The Russian title does not translate to "Overture on Hebrew Themes." I
suspect, but do not know, that playing the work under the real title (or I should
say the real
translation) might have been an embarrassment for those who wanted to
distance themselves from the ethnicity involved. The real title is "Overture on
Yiddish Themes" (with other translations suggesting, "Overture on Jewish
Themes").>>

Dan, I was aware of your earlier post on this subject. The person listing
the program simply took the information from the title page of the
International Music Company edition.

There is NO embarrassment concerning the "ethnicity." Three of the six of us
are Jewish, and, for heavens sake, we are playing in Highland Park, IL,
which has seven synagogues and only six Christian churches!
