I take it that the instrument in question is a wooden clarinet. Some (not
all) of the earlier P-M clarinets were quite excellent, and were used by
many pro players in the 20s and 30s. I just sent off my double wall P-M to
be factory-new restored, including bright nickel silver plating. It's
costing me a small bundle, but the instrument, even in poor condition, plays
beautifully, with great sound and intonation. I thought it would be a hoot
to show up for a band gig with this horn. Kalman Bloch, formerly of the LA
Phil, started on a P-M, and likes the one I have.
But, no, it should not end up as a lamp (unless it's a real dog).

Clarionet. An instrument of torture operated by a person with cotton in his
ears. There are two instruments worse than the clarionet - two clarionets.
