The repairman whom I especially trusted (now retired) has a similar
clarinet in Bb. He let me play it once, and I asked him what the
curved bell was supposed to accomplish. He replied that the curve was
in response to the layperson's superstition that a clarinet's sound
comes out of the bell. Therefore the bell should not point towards the
floor.
