Andre, I am recovering from *extremely* disappointing results when I
loaded various MIDI files ('general' MIDI, 'extended' MIDI and so forth)
into various music programs such as Sibelius and its cousins, Finale and
its cousins, and lesser-known programs such as MakeMusic.
Each program interpreted each MIDI file differently --- especially the
note durations. I was at a loss as to which interpretation matched the
original composition. The only reliable cure was to ask for a scan of
the printed sheet music, and then I entered the sheet music into the
music program that I liked best. This way, I knew what I was starting
with. Afterwards I could have edited the music if I had needed to do
so.
Copyrights can be a problem when asking for a scan of published music.
Fortunately, this was not an issue in my case.
