David quotes a newspaper article containing, "If the sound is dark and rich,
the same thing happens. I'm looking for that dark, rich sound." And some
pooh-pooh that description of the sound as non-existent.

I recognize it when it hear it on a CD, recognize it in live performances,
and recognize it when I am producing it on the horn. I think those who deny
it, need somebody to point it out when it is present, by saying this is what
I mean. Then the pooh-pooher could reply, Oh, you mean centered, round, and
highly-overtoned.
