I sounded a bit vain here...didn't mean to. I *should* have
written.."IMVHO"

And, to clarify that earlier post, those are not the only things a
teacher/conductor will introduce in that first year - if s/he gets that
far. But, as I mentioned somewhat, YMMV... every situation is going to
be different. What you experience may be VERY different from what I've
experienced.

Another caveat - I am noticing that the general music teachers we have
in recent years are doing more to get students interested in learning to
read notation than they were a few years back. This is heartening,
especially when so much time is used to do this in class, which could be
be used working on ensemble technique.
